Laredo man allegedly stabbed his niece with garden shears

A man allegedly stabbed his niece with a pair of garden shears and punched her in the face after an argument, according to the Laredo Police Department.

Humberto Solis was arrested on September 22. The 53-year-old was charged with aggravated assault on a date/family/home with a weapon (F/1).

Solis was returned to Webb County Jail on $50,000 bond by Judge L. Martinez on September 23. Records show he was released the following day.

The incident occurred on the day of the arrest as the LPD said an officer was dispatched to the 3300 block of Salinas Avenue for a reported stabbing.

A witness reportedly said Solis called his niece a drug addict, took her outside and assaulted her. He then allegedly brought her back inside and beat her with a closed fist.

The victim – who was taken to Laredo Medical Center – was determined by medical professionals to have a puncture wound to the shoulder, a laceration to the back of the ear and a broken lip.

The woman allegedly told officers she was cooking when her uncle started insulting her before they both ended up outside where she was assaulted. She said “she felt like she had been stabbed in the back by something” and that when she turned around, her uncle had what looked like green pliers in his hands. She was then allegedly grabbed by the hair and dragged back inside.

Asking Solis what happened, he reportedly said “yo nofu, yo nofu, era ella, nofu yo” or “it wasn’t me, it wasn’t me, it was her, not me. Officers also claimed he had a laceration on his cheek which he was unwilling to explain and did not give them a straight answer as to what happened.

After investigating the scene, investigators found a pair of gardening sheers with green handles.
